Power Users of Information and Communication Technology International Symposium
San Jose, Costa Rica August 8-10, 2005

During the First International Symposium of Power Users of ICT, teams of young "Power Users" from around the world participated in exciting learning challenges geared toward finding solutions and making recommendations to meet the United Nations Millennium Goals!

Teams of young people from Costa Rica, Latin America, Australia, the Netherlands, the USA, China, and the Philippines convened in Costa Rica at this dynamic and exciting event.

Meet the Power User of ICT team from the Philippines:

The Philippine ICT Power Users team comprises of energetic youth from the community of San Vicente, Philippines. These youth have a strong desire to represent their country and an eagerness to communicate to the Network World. All of the members of the team are residents of a community-based network (E-Community), using low cost deployment of wireless broadband Internet access. Laptop computers can practically be connected out in the streets of their community, enjoying mobility and broadband wireless Internet access.

This team's challenge question in meeting the objectives of the Symposium, as well as the Technology and Peace UN Millennium Goal, involved responding to the question, "How can young people use technology to help build a global society dedicated to peace?". To accomplish their challenge, the team visited and conducted their work at the University for Peace (UPAZ) in Costa Rica.
